Singles – 2014/07/07

Billie Black – I Don’t Need Another Love

Having only two singles to her name, this London-based newcomer has been making healthy strides in the musical blogsphere. With her second single ‘I Don’t Need Another Love’ she ventures further into her electro-soul palette, as her cool rasp floats over gentle Rhodes while cascading synths and nimble drum and bass patterns fill out the grooves in the mix. Her sound is one that simultaneously pays homage to the sounds of late 90s soul music while still embracing modern bedroom pop production.

Frànçois & the Atlas Mountains - The Way To The Forest (Petite Noir's Noirwave Remix)

Capetonian producer Petite Noir’s latest remix for French indie act Frànçois & the Atlas Mountains sees him inverting their sound into an afro-drone, as a busy percussive section holds the foundation for playful xylophone melodies and deep sub bass lines to fill out the spaces, while astral synths cloud up the mix in a trance like daze.

Spazzkid – Goodbye

Steel drums, warped synths, summery mallets and heavy claps engulf the mix on the new single by LA-based producer Spazzkid. His shy vocals provide a neat contrast to the eclectic musical arrangements on display. Spazzkid’s forthcoming EP, Promise, is set for release July 7th via Magical Properties.

Astronomyy – Nothing On My Mind

New single by sensitive indie act Astronomyy is a blissful ballad that sees him refining his signature sound of jangly guitar hooks over trap inspired drum patterns, while his introspective musing over love and lost love marinate the stereo. His debut effort, ‘THERE FOR U’ EP, will be available July 28th

Honeyblood – Super Rat

Self described as “Noisy Scottish Girls,” this Glasgow duo embrace the sounds of garage rock and dream pop to great effect as their swirling single ‘Super Rat’ takes the feminine bravery of a young PJ Harvey and mixes it up with the stadium-sized guitar riffage of a slowdive. Honeyblood‘s debut LP will be available July 24th via Fat Cat Records
